[SDL] fonts for an application with sdl + opengl

what are the advantages of making a font with SDL_ttf over making it with
opengl?

I have only made fonts with SDL and I am needing to make fonts in a SDL +
opengl application, but I am in doubt about that do to the great amount of
options that I have... could someone give me a tip?
