[SDL] video capture

All,
Think I 'may' have asked this before but here goes again
I am trying to find something that will provide me with cross-platform (at least btwn linux and win32) video capture via webcam and such like. I know SDL does not (yet) support this but wondered what the plans are regarding this?
I found an opensource project call PortVideo which makes stab at this but the code is not maintained as far as I can tell however they do expose a generic API which hides a bunch of #ifdef's to use the particular OS H/W code.
