Further to my previous post, if you are serious about wanting good sound effects
and haven't done this kind of thing before, check out
http://www.starwars.com/episode-i/bts/featurette/4.html. This shows what the
Star Wars sound designer did to get some fantastic effects.
For some resources, run a Google search on "sound engineer" or "sound
resources". One of the top ones that came up was
http://www.audioed.com.au/home.html which has some resources (I didn't check
through them, though).
I don't think anyone has a comprehensive library, though, since the libraries
people will have will be related to what they were wanting their sounds for.
You'll probably have to just download a few bits from a whole bunch of different
places and build up your own library.
Google is your friend in this regard, though, because if you want, say, a laser
gun sound, just run a search on that. You'll be bound to find a site that has a
free downloadable sound that you like eventually!
