[SDL] No Keybord Events on Debian System

hi all,

i'm developing a program that should run on a panel-pc under
debian-linux.
most work i do under windows then i copy the code to another linux
system, (not the target system) and compile it there.
it all works very well under windows and the second linux system, but
when i put it to the target system i get no events from the keyboard.
the system itself keeps running but the keyboard is totally dead.
i tried the SDL_NO_RAWKBD option but that does not help.

anyone any idea?
