[SDL] (mixer) lag (delay) using sdl mixer, linux

hello, when playing Mix chunks, using sdl mixer, i notice a lag (delay) of 
the sound of approx. 0.3 seconds. (linux, ubuntu). I have changed buffer 
settings from low to high, it doesn't matter.

Is this a sdl mixer problem, or a driver problem? I've asked this question 
on another board and searched Google, a lot of other people seem to 
experience a lag. (even lags of a second).
