[SDL] Problem Opening Chinese Font in SDL_ttf

I am the translator for Tradition Chinese of Battle of Wesnoth.
I find some Tradition Chinese font file (for Big5 codec). But the program failed load the font file.
Does the SDL_ttf library accept the two bits character set?

I search at google but it does not have any useful answer for it.
