Need to find the best JSDL docs ? How to poke into Overlay mem in JSDL ?

Looking at one set of JSDL docs ... I could not see how you would write into the Overlay memory after locking it ? 

Where are the most uptodate docs ? 

And should I be able to write to the Overlay from Java ? 

I see lock and unlock methods but no way of writing to the memory.
