[SDL] Lot's of problems linking running SDL app on Mandrake 9.

Lot's of problems linking running SDL app on Mandrake 9.

First of all ... I get linker errors such as

can't find XOpenDisplay and a whole bunch of undefined X functions.

Also, I'm getting a bomb calling. 

SDL_Init(SDL_INIT_EVERYTHING).


I'm very suspicious that something could be cross-threaded with respect to sharded file , Runtimes, development (headers) and more on my machine. I think I installed SDL before even checking to what extent it was supported on Mandrake 9 (force of habit with older linux installs to upgrade the SDL).

For starters ... why might I get the linker error ? 

I've gone so far as to forcefully insall the latest runtimes and development stuff from the www.libSDL.org.

Any advice would be appreciated.
