It makes it easier for programmers to start using the new version when they
don't need any of the new features of the new version. Granted, SDL 2.0 is
probably a case where this is impossible, simply because SDL 1.x is quite
limited compared to what some would like to see in SDL 2.0. But why break
stuff just because you can?
