[SDL] Error: Unable to open a console terminal

When i launch `SDL_InitSubSystem(SDL_INIT_TIMER | SDL_INIT_VIDEO)` under KDE 
2.2.2 i got a `Unable to open a console terminal` error from SDL_GetError.
I'm using SDL 1.2.5, debian woody and xlibs-dev 4.2.1-3.
Any idea?
