[SDL] SDL parachute

Dear Sirs,
I'm a Mandrake 8.0 Linux  KDE 2.1.1 user and my problem is 
the following:
when I try to run some openGL games such as tuxracer, 
chromium or gltron,
i receive the message 
"Fatal signal: Segmentation Fault (SDL Parachute Deployed)"
even though the user is root.
To overcome the problem I found the following successful 
steps:
- to restart the session from console level;
- login with root
- to run startx
In this case and ONLY in this one all is OK!
If I try the same procedure but with a different user I 
get the 
error message above.

does it exist a way to run the games application by using 
a regular user ?

My system is ("uname -a" output)
